2023 NJECC Mini-Documentary 2nd Place Winner

The East Orange School District is proud to announce that scholar, Robert , from Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts has won 2nd Place in the 2023 NJECC Mini-Documentary Challenge. Robert wrote a story of resilience in the managing normal activities at a time when nothing was normal titled “Powering Through COVID”. Robert’s film was judged by four judges who reviewed: The Script and Storyboard, Content and Organization, Instruction, Audio and Voice Editing, Use of Media, Pace and Teamwork. Robert will receive a certificate and a small token from NJECC. Kudos to teacher, Ricardo Romero, as well as Principal John English, and Assistant Principals Ameenah Poole and Wanda Davis for their continuous support.

major positive outcome of the pandemic although it didn't seem good at first was that it cut season short for my sophomore year it showed me that you don't have time to like waste with anything in life like so as far as like this season can cut short being a positive thing the seniors who I have been looking up to like pretty much my whole life with similar goals had to deal with not playing their whole season because of something that they couldn't control and it just kind of like was a big boy a realization that I had to make that like time wait for nobody life is going to move on so you just got it how to do given your circumstances really and give him a new sense of urgency since the offseason was like you know put up early it just made me go super hard for my junior year and coincidentally like it was instilled in all the other guy so we had at 13 and I was just something I was definitely positive another huge positive impact they had on the athletic side of my life is. it is really made me like go try to get the connections fast and like make mini new relationship with coaches because like I do realize like I have power to control my own life and with seeing like a lot of people having new trees and becoming more independent and working on new different projects I'm like oh why not me so if I don't go to college and play football I started reaching out to I started making connections while I was doing different trees like going to a class for basketball AAU games me and Rasputin coaches and most of this is because that's a big part of my life but like something that made me more appreciative of the mindfulness aspect of life and is being mindful of like yourself and being conscientious of like how you deal with the different things the wild going through hardships my head coach John Jenkins he's not really a guy who like ones to be like announce publicly or knit any public attention but like he definitely gave me a mindset about being prepared for the top experiences in life and not worrying about what can control you know how many people including myself were guilty of like making excuses and blaming all the circumstances on how their life was going I like how you do that your whole life then you'll never get anywhere because life is always going to be hard like significantly there will always be their challenges and hardship so if you just take too much time so come on with you can't control you really want progress and I was just I think I just kind of realize and just trying to focus on how I could like prepare myself for the harm in my life covid-19 something positive for me because it allowed me to have a shift in mindset the value of time and allow me to have a different appreciation for life in the things that I do have
